I found this man on 7th Avenue in Park Slope. He was leaning heavily on his cane, looking down, wearing a grimaced face. I felt bad for him, so I smiled and waved when I walked past. His face changed completely. He lit up, smiled wide, and gave me a cheery greeting. There was nothing forced about it. He seemed like a man who went through life looking for the smallest excuses to be happy.I walked 50 feet down the sidewalk, turned around, and walked back to him. “I want to take your photo,” I told him, “because of how big you smiled when I walked by.”He said: “Well I saw someone smiling at me who I didn’t even know. So I thought: ‘By God! I Better do something!’”

I love this.

KONY 2012

I keep seeing negative comments from people about Kony 2012, something that has taken the social media world by storm. I’m tired of it. People keep coming up with something negative to say about Invisible Children. People are bringing up numbers of how much Invisible Children make annually and how much of that goes to the cause. Maybe they make so and so annually. Maybe they only donate so and so amount of money but money has to go into awareness and programs and fundraisers in order for them to give money to the organizations that they are making awareness for. Unfortunately, money just doesn’t grow on trees. People are complaining about how Kony and the LRA has been going on for years and nobody has done anything. DUH. Thats the whole point of Kony 2012. The point is to make those who weren’t aware of what has been going on, aware. Yes, there are many other problems in this world but this is the start of something amazing. We all just witnessed the incredible things of what one retweet could do. It’s a social media revolution. Let’s stop with the hate on Invisible Children. Let’s admire what they have created because at least they are doing SOMETHING. Thats more than all the people making the negative comments can say for themselves.
